An Insurance Company's Perspective: Managed Competition in Massachusetts Personal Auto Insurance.
As you know, we have been working long and hard to prepare for the transition to managed competition and to ensure that together we win in Massachusetts over the long term.
In spite of continuing efforts by some to derail reform, we remain committed to creating a competitive market and we fully expect the transition to managed competition to occur on schedule.
While we have been very successful under the current system over the past several years, we also have been a leader in the drive to reform. Our concern has been and continues to be that with so few insurance carriers in the state, market instability and inadequate capacity is inevitable over the long run. The concentration of a small number of Massachusetts-only companies has contributed to the coastal— "Cape Cod" problem and the frustration of consumers who have limited insurance choices. Reform presents our company with both opportunity and risk, and certainly in the short-term, we expect it to lead to lower returns. However, as a concerned corporate citizen and a major employer in Massachusetts, we are not motivated by short-term objectives.

Do you plan to rent a car while you're on vacation?
With many rental companies there is a coverage called the LDW (loss damage waiver) or CDW (collision damage waiver) that the client can purchase and absolve him/herself of responsibility for damage to the rental car. This can be a “hefty” fee. Some rental companies charge over $10.00 per DAY! (Just think … $10.00 x 365 … $3,650) The yearly cost of the LDW/CDW is WAY more than most clients pay for collision and comprehensive COMBINED for their own auto!

Identity Theft ... Are You Who You Think You Are??? Are You Sure???
This is a great article with a number of very useful links included.
By Irene Morrill, CPCU, CIC, ARM, CRM, LIA, CPIW Vice President of Technical Affairs
What's the big deal … Haven't we all seen those commercials on TV where a big burly guy is sitting there talking with a Fran Dresher "nanny-like" voice detailing all the cutesy little things "she" charged on this guy's credit card. The identity theft commercials are some of my favorite commercials … if one can really have a favorite. They always make me laugh. However, after doing some research … identity theft is NO laughing matter, for sure!
In January 2005 the Better Business Bureau released a report stating that 9.3 million Americans were subject to identify fraud in the preceding 12 months! Over 27 million Americans have been victim to identity theft in the last 5 years. Even though there certainly are security issues inherent in those who use the Internet, over 68% of information obtained in the identity theft claims was from information obtained OFF line!

Homeowners Insurance Tips:
Greg Nelson, CPCU, AIM, gives sound advice, including the following six tips, that even the most financially savvy homeowners may not have considered:
1) Take interest in identifying the proper amount of coverage for your home. Don't rely on your agent or your mortgage lender to pick the right amount of coverage.
2) Check your home's replacement cost amount at least once a year.
3) Update your policy. Make sure you have building code and ordinance coverage on your policy.
4) Be overly conservative in your estimate of the replacement value. It's better to have more coverage than you need than to end up short.
5) Get an appraisal or inspection if you can afford it.
6) Don't let your voluntary policy expire. If you fail to renew your voluntary policy, your mortgage company will probably buy a policy for your property, which could be very expensive without providing the same broad coverage as most voluntary policies.
"A major catastrophe is not necessary for a homeowner to find out they are grossly underinsured. Anyone who suffers a major fire, water or other loss may discover that they do not have enough coverage on their home. If the loss is serious enough to require major reconstruction of the home, the owner may find that because of inflation, building code changes, location of the property and other factors, that they simply have not bought enough coverage to rebuild their home," writes Nelson.
Recent events involving investigations and lawsuits concerning alleged illegal activities by some insurance brokers have received extensive media attention. As a result, the Lussier Insurance Agency wants to address proactively any questions or concerns you may have about our business practices.
First, we are very disturbed by the claims of illegal conduct stemming from the investigations, and we strongly believe that anyone proven guilty of such practices should be brought to justice.
The Lussier Insurance Agency does not take its customers for granted. We know that you can obtain your insurance from other sources, and we work hard to earn your business. Your total satisfaction is our goal. As a proud Trusted Choice® agency, one way we seek to meet that goal is by adhering to a Pledge of Performance, (See Home Screen of our Web Site).
For you to be satisfied with the Lussier Insurance Agency , we know you need to see and experience the value in what we do. Value means different things to different people. It can be based on many things, such as the price of insurance, financial strength of the insurance company, speed and quality of claims service, breadth of coverage, and other factors. And, depending on your needs and circumstances, the value proposition for you may change from one year to another.
One way the Lussier Insurance Agency tries to provide value, however you define it, is through the basic way we do business. A hallmark of Trusted Choice® agencies is that we have the ability to offer you a choice of insurance companies and policies. Based on the needs and desires you have, we seek to find you policy choices that provide you value.
To be able to offer you choices, the Lussier Insurance Agency maintains relationships with multiple insurance companies. We do this because one insurance company’s policies cannot meet the needs and desires of all our customers—one size does not fit all. Each of those insurance companies pays the Lussier Insurance Agency fees based on business our customers have us place with it. We do not charge our customers any commissions or other fees for services we are compensated for by insurance companies.
If you have questions about any aspect of how the Lussier Insurance Agency does business, including how we are compensated, please let us know and we will happily discuss them with you.
We hope we say it often enough, but again, we thank you for your business.

FLOOD FACTS!! |
- Everyone lives in a flood zone.
- Homeowners insurance doesn't cover flood damage.
- Just an inch of water can cause costly damage to your property.
- Flash floods often bring walls of water 10 to 20 feet high.
- A car can easily be carried away by just two feet of floodwater.
- Hurricanes, winter storms and snow melt are common (but often overlooked) causes of flooding.
- New land development can increase flood risk, especially if the construction changes natural runoff paths.
- It takes 30 days after purchase for a policy to take effect, so it's important to buy insurance before the floodwaters start to rise.
